Tamko Gutter Replacement: The Houston Owner’s Guide

We stock and install Tamko-compatible gutter replacement in Houston for a typical installed cost of $8 to $14 per linear foot, and most single-story homes run between $1,300 and $2,600 all-in. Same-day gutter replacement is available when we have the profile and color on the truck, which is most weeks. Homeowners usually find us the same way: a section of gutter has pulled loose at the fascia or a downspout has separated after a Houston storm, and the water is suddenly pouring where it shouldn’t be.

By the time someone calls about Tamko gutter replacement in Houston, they’ve usually spotted one of three things: a sagging run that holds standing water, a joint that’s opened up and drips during light rain, or a section that got bent or torn by a falling limb. Travis Oakley has been reading roofs and gutter lines in this city long enough to know that our heat and humidity don’t fail gutters all at once. They fail them slowly, at the seams and the hangers, until one good downpour makes the damage impossible to ignore.

Which Tamko Models This Applies To

Tamko’s gutter line is smaller than their roofing line, but the compatibility question still matters. The part you’re replacing has to match the profile and the gauge or the water won’t run clean and the seams will fight you. Most Tamko residential gutters in Houston are either 5-inch K-style aluminum in .027 or .032 gauge, or 6-inch K-style on larger roof planes. The 6-inch profile shows up on homes where the roof pitch and overhang push more water into the trough than a 5-inch can carry. If you’re not sure which one you have, measure across the top opening of the gutter. Five inches means 5-inch. Six inches means 6-inch.

There’s also the half-round profile, which we see on older bungalows in the Heights and Garden Oaks. The half-round hangers and brackets are not interchangeable with K-style hardware, even if the width matches. That’s the gotcha we see most often: a homeowner buys a generic 5-inch replacement hanger, gets it home, and the profile won’t seat. We keep both profiles stocked in white, bronze, and a handful of custom color matches, and we’ll tell you plainly whether OEM Tamko hardware is worth the premium or whether a quality aftermarket equivalent does the same job for less. In our experience, the aftermarket aluminum hangers and end caps we stock hold up identically to OEM in Houston’s climate, and they usually cost 20 to 30 percent less. The one thing we don’t substitute is the sealant. We use a commercial-grade gutter sealant rated for Gulf Coast UV and standing water, because the bargain tubes fail here inside two years.

Brennan Roofing Co Houston is an independent service provider and not affiliated with Tamko. We stock Tamko-compatible components because they’re sized and finished right for the homes we work on, not because we’re tied to the brand.

Signs Your Tamko Gutter Replacement Is Failing

  • Gutter pulling away from the fascia. You’ll see a visible gap between the back of the gutter and the wood it’s mounted to. This means the hangers or screws have loosened, and every good rain is now running behind the gutter instead of into it. Left alone in Houston humidity, this becomes a fascia rot problem, and fascia repair costs more than the gutter work.
  • Standing water in a run that used to drain. The slope has settled or a hanger has let go, and the water pools instead of running to the downspout. In Houston, standing water in a gutter breeds mosquitos fast and adds weight the hangers were never set to carry.
  • Water dripping from a seam or corner during light rain. Not a storm, light rain. That’s a failed sealant bead, and it will not heal itself. The seam opened because the aluminum expanded and contracted through enough hot-and-cold cycles to split the sealant, and now the leak is permanent until it’s re-sealed or the section is replaced.
  • Rust streaks or pinhole leaks on the gutter face. Most “aluminum” gutters are fine, but if a previous owner or contractor installed steel or a coated product that’s lost its coating, rust follows. Pinhole leaks in the bottom of a gutter usually mean the material is done, not just the sealant. Patching buys months, not years.
  • Downspout separated from the drop outlet at the elbow. The screw connection at the outlet has stripped or the elbow was crushed by a ladder. Water now dumps at the foundation, which is exactly what a gutter is supposed to prevent. In Houston’s clay soil, concentrated water at the foundation line causes movement, and that movement causes drywall cracks inside the house.

Replacement Cost & What’s Included

Installed Tamko-compatible gutter replacement in Houston runs $8 to $14 per linear foot for standard 5-inch K-style aluminum, including hangers, end caps, downspout connections, full removal and haul-off of the old material, and new sealant at every seam. A typical single-story ranch with 120 to 180 linear feet of gutter lands between $1,300 and $2,600. If you have the 6-inch profile or half-round, add $2 to $4 per foot. Multi-story homes run higher because of ladder and safety setup on the upper runs, usually 20 to 30 percent more than the single-story rate on the same length.

The price goes on paper before any work starts, and that number does not move at the door. We don’t work from estimates that turn into something else once the ladder goes up. What’s included in the written price: the gutter material, all hardware, the labor, the haul-off, and a one-year written guarantee under the 365-Day Done Right Promise. If any part of that gutter line fails within the year, we come back and make it right at no charge. That’s the Garrison Standard, and it’s the same on a 30-foot repair as it is on a full replacement.

DIY or Call Us?

You can safely identify the problem yourself. Walk the line, look for sagging runs, check where the water is or isn’t going in the next rain, and measure the gutter width so you know which profile you have. That’s useful, and it helps us quote accurately over the phone.

Where DIY goes wrong is on the ladder work. Replacing a 30-foot run of gutter from an extension ladder while holding an 8-foot piece of aluminum in Houston wind is how people get hurt. The work itself, the cutting and the hanger-setting and the sealing, is not complicated, but the access is the danger. Ladder setup on uneven ground, working at height, moving sections long enough to catch wind, all of it. If you want to handle a downspout repair at ground level, go ahead. If the work requires a ladder, call us at (940) 461-8481. We’ll have it done before the next rain, with a written price in your hand before anything gets removed.
